Satyanarayan Puja Items

Once the date of Satyanarayan Puja is decided, devotees should prepare a list of items needed to perform this ritual successfully. It is very important to make necessary arrangements at least one day ahead of the puja so that there’s nothing missing. Puja items can be purchased from a local shop.

List of items

  • Kumkum powder
  • Turmeric powder
  • Rangoli
  • Incense sticks
  • Camphor
  • 30 betel leaves
  • 30 betel nuts
  • 2 coconuts
  • 5 almonds
  • Plenty of flowers to be offered to the Lord
  • One thousand Tulsi leaves (Indian Basil)
  • Banana tree for canopy
  • A square shaped wooden platform to seat the idols
  • 2 copper jars
  • 2 plates
  • 1 shawl
  • A mixture of yogurt, milk, honey, ghee and sugar to prepare the Pancamrta
  • Sandalwood paste
  • Akshat, or rice grains, with turmeric powder
  • Sandalwood sticks
  • 2 flower garlands
  • Conc shell
  • Puja bell
  • A cloth
  • Ghee lamp
  • Oil lamp
  • 1 kilogram raw rice
  • 1 kilogram sweet semolina for sirni preparation to offer to the deity as prasadam
  • 6 number of coconuts after completing each chapter of the Satyanarayan katha
  • Sirni – A specially prepared prasadam offered to the Lord, which is prepared by mixing flour, sugar, semolina, smashed bananas with milk. Optional garnishing can be added to the prasadam as well, such as crushed coconuts, fruits, cherries, cashews, groundnuts, raisins etc.
